COLUMBUS, Ohio—Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is pleased to announce that Gil Cloyd, CCAD Trustee and co-founder of the Ohio Film Group, has generously created a new endowed fund in CCAD’s Animation program: the Cloyd Endowed Scholarship in Animation. The Cloyd Endowed Scholarship in Animation will provide annual scholarship funding for two Animation students—one third-year and one fourth-year—who have shown they can be important leaders in the many fields engaged with the profession of animation, either in the private sector or academia. To encourage these student leaders in their pursuit of animation careers, the scholarship is renewable. If a third-year student continues to exhibit leadership amongst their peers, they may receive the scholarship again in their fourth year.

We are thrilled by Gil’s generosity and continued support of CCAD students,” said President Melanie Corn. “It is because of supporters like him that CCAD is able to help shape culture and commerce in Columbus and around the world. The financial support provided by the Cloyd Endowed Scholarship in Animation allows emerging student leaders to complete their studies ready to launch into their creative careers.”

Endowed scholarships like the Cloyd Endowed Scholarship in Animation are crucial to the success of CCAD’s students and to the college’s sustainability. An endowed scholarship fund not only distributes annual awards to support CCAD students’ educational ambitions, but also improves the college’s ability to help manage the ever-increasing costs of higher education. Endowed scholarship funds provide annual awards to students in perpetuity and create meaningful impact for students today and for years to come.

Mr. Cloyd’s generous gift empowers our department to recognize and support student leaders in our program,” said Charlotte Belland, Chair of Animation and Professor. “In the past 10 years, our student population has grown by nearly 800% and, with the recent boom in animation production, we anticipate more students pursuing a career in animation and animation-related industries. Our alumni leaders have gone on to leadership roles in television, film, and games.”

Cloyd has been a significant supporter of CCAD for more than five years. His previous contributions have funded visiting artists and annual scholarships in Animation, and helped to build the state-of-the-art Cloyd Family Animation Center. CCAD students and the Animation program are stronger because of Cloyd’s continued support.

I believe in the importance of higher education and in helping students reach their full potential,” said Cloyd. “My hope is that this scholarship will encourage the best new artists to achieve their creative goals and build careers in the field of animation.”
