The Process
Working from a design brief, CCAD students researched current trends, popular culture, product lines, and manufacturing capabilities to identify new potential categories in a two week sprint. Students also spoke with sample customers and examined competitors to identify hidden opportunities. Following the research phase, they participated in a 24-hour challenge in eight teams of five students each. CCAD faculty and staff, along with representatives from BigMouth, Inc. provided guidance, critique, and mentorship.
Results
The students generated over 1200 concept sketches within the 24-hour design charrette. At noon, each team presented their concepts to the judges (BigMouth executives and CCAD faculty). Winners were awarded prizes for first, second, and third place. The BigMouth team then took those concepts back into their creative development process to spark new product ideas influenced by the unique perspectives of CCAD students.
