Orimo Migiwa The Day Before Tomorrow Detail

On view Thursday, March 13, 2025–Saturday, May 3, 2025

BOOK is an exhibition that explores the deep and evolving relationship between art and the book—whether as object, inspiration, or vessel of meaning. Each artist in the exhibition engages with literature, history, and personal narratives, revealing the book’s power to shape, question, and reimagine the world around us.

Mark Harris interrogates colonial histories through botanical literature and political imagery. Migiwa Orimo maps the often-overlooked presence of ICE detention centers, layering archival research with personal reflection. CCAD alum Kent Rhodebeck (Fine Arts, 2014) approaches the book as an object of touch and time. Justin Sorensen disrupts the structure of books and language, transforming text into material to be scattered and reconfigured. Collaborators Todd Slaughter and Melissa Yes investigate the shifting moral legacy of Atticus Finch, using Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman as a lens to examine American identity and disillusionment.

BOOK considers the act of reading as more than consumption—it is an exchange, a transformation, and a record of shifting meaning. As books age, their significance evolves in ways we cannot always predict, challenging us to reconsider the weight of what is written, preserved, and forgotten.
