Faculty Highlight
Katie Davis
Assistant Professor Katie Davis is a mixed media painter and installation artist. She finds inspiration in materials such as old curtains or vintage fabrics that had a life of their own before making their way into her work. As a professor in the First-Year Experience classes Creative Practices and Making With Care, she encourages students to consider materials as much as they consider concepts. You can see her own explorations in work such as, Painting for a Space at the Beeler Gallery, a collaborative effort that asked the question, “What does it mean to consider a room as a painting?”

We know you want studio time. So yes, we make that an integral part of your First-Year Experience.
Our academic courses in writing, philosophy, business math, and other areas help you build the skills that support your creative career.
You’ll dive into your major from the start in classes that combine studio exploration and learning with academic work.
All students take Visual Literacy, a class develops your understanding of 2D, 3D, and even 4D design concepts, as well as color theory.
